Check them out below. For the full article, click here.

Lupita Nyong’o voices Raksha, who cares for Mowgli like her own cub.

“She is the protector, the eternal mother,” Nyong’o said in a Disney press release. “The word ‘Raksha’ actually means protection in Hindi. I felt really connected to that, wanting to protect a son that isn’t originally hers but one she’s taken for her own.”

Giancarlo Esposito voices Akela, the alpha-male wolf who accepts Mowgli but also fears he’ll endanger the pack.

“Akela is a fierce patriarch of the wolf pack,” said Esposito. “He believes the strength of the pack lies in what each and every wolf offers. He’s a great leader, a wise teacher.”

Idris Elba voices Shere Khan, who was wronged by mankind and thinks Mowgli must be destroyed for the good of the jungle.

“Shere Khan reigns with fear,” said Elba. “He terrorizes everyone he encounters because he comes from a place of fear.”

Sir Ben Kingsley voices Bagheera, Mowgli’s teacher and protector.

“Bagheera is Mowgli’s adoptive parent,” said Kingsley. “His role in Mowgli’s life is to educate, to protect and to guide. My Bagheera was military — he’s probably a colonel. He is instantly recognizable by the way he talks, how he acts and what his ethical code is.”

Scarlett Johansson voices the treacherous, hypnotic python Kaa.

“Kaa seduces and entraps Mowgli with her storytelling,” Johansson said. “She’s the mirror into Mowgli’s past. The way she moves is very alluring, almost coquettish.”

And Christopher Walken voices King Louie, the ape desperate to learn the secret of how to make fire.

New Design of “The Jungle Book” Character Plush! So cute!

Seriously, Disney? Is there some conspiracy out there that’s goal is to turn me into a stuffed-animal hoarder? I already have a super large Stitch plus, a Baymax, a seagull from Nemo, 60th Anniversary Minnie, and all of the classic Winnie the Pooh characters… and now this!

Well I can’t stay angry, especially when it comes to Disney. Perhaps if I share the newest items on my blog, it will satisfy my desire to order all of them right this second.

Check out these awesome Jungle Book stuffed animals!

You probably recognize the villainous Shere Khan, who looks more cuddly than cutthroat. And King Louie, in all his fiery glory (check out that hair!). Then Kaa, who will be voiced by the sleek Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming movie, looks shimmery. Gotta love that tongue, you can almost hear him/her hisssss!

Enough of the bad guys, how about the cutie good guys. Junior, Bagheera, and Gray! I love Gray’s eyes and think Bagheera is stunningly mysterious. Junior’s big ears remind me to my Stitch plushie!

And last, but certainly not least, is my favorite one of all. I have a great deal of memories with Baloo from my childhood. The Jungle Book was always one of my go-to movies as a kid, and Baloo made me laugh nonstop. I’ve always had a soft spot for him. And look at how he was recreated. Just beautiful!

I love the coloring on him, the big paws and sweet face. He is the epitome of “Teddy Bear”! So… naturally… I… had to……. buy him………….

Heh.

Okay, moving on. Anyone care to tell me who this fellow is? I’m assuming he will be part of the rendition coming out in just under two months (yes, April 15th is the date!)!!!

To celebrate, I give you… Mr. Pangolin!

“The Jungle Book” 2016 Trailer will give you GOOSEBUMPS!

I have watched this trailer at least 30 times since yesterday. Oh my gosh oh my gosh.

the jungle book 2016

It looks unreal. Fabulous! I’m barely able to type this post right now. Wait until the very last second. The whistling… it gave me chills! I don’t want to give away all the tiny surprises, so please watch it and let me know what you think. Also, pay attention to the narrative. Who is that woman’s voice? (I was blown away!!!)

I will say one thing. This is not your cheery, cuddly The Jungle Book that we grew up with. That may be the biggest understatement of the year! Enjoy! 🙂

Strawberry Banana Bread

This one’s a winner! It’s an interesting twist on the normal banana bread recipe. By adding the strawberries to the bread, it keeps it moist and sweeter than usual. I was sort of put off by the idea at first, by now I am completely obsessed with this combination! You can enjoy this unique treat at the Wilderness Lodge’s restaurant, Whispering Canyon Cafe – or just make it yourself, it’s very easy!

NOTE: First, let me start by saying that I had to tweak the recipe some. I added vanilla to it, no big deal. But the main problem was the temperature of the oven.

The recipe says to preheat the oven at 325º for one-hour, which I know from baking that it would not be high enough, but I always try and follow the recipe exact the first time. At that temperature, it took the bread nearly 3 hours to bake! My instincts tell me that the bread should be baked at 425º, so next time I will raise it.

Now, let us begin!

Start by mixing 1 cup of butter (room temp.) with 2 cups of granulated sugar. While they’re busy mixing and mingling, mash up those bananas. Any “Wiggles” fans here, hm? Mashed banana, mashed banana, *tweet tweet*.

No, just me? Ok…

I used 4 bananas that were just turning brown on the peel. The recipe calls for six, but I only had four and I think there was enough banana flavor.

Add the mashed bananas to the butter-cream mixture and mix these ingredients together. This is also when I added my tablespoon of vanilla. I mean, how can you go wrong with vanilla?

With the mixture running, add the four eggs in, one at a time, allowing each egg to blend into the banana mixture thoroughly.

Once all of the eggs have been incorporated, remove from the mixer and set aside.

In a separate bowl, add 3 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt and mix together. Please don’t skip the salt! I know, it sounds weird to add salt to a sweet recipe, but the addition of the strawberries calls for something to balance it out.

Add the flour mixture to the banana mixture, and gently fold the dry into the wet. The bread mixture gets very think, pretty quickly too. It’s a dense mixture.

Now, you could stop here and have some amazing banana bread. Pretty simple, right? But this is where we add the ingredient that brings the pizzazz.

The recipe calls for 1 1/2 pounds of sliced frozen strawberries that have been thawed out. Well, I accidentally bought whole frozen strawberries, but I don’t think that matters much. Having the whole strawberries inside the bread actually looked pretty cool, and it made the dough around the strawberries chewier, almost with a more cake-like consistency.

***Please make sure that you don’t by the berries in juice or syrup. The bread will never cook with all that liquid.

Add the thawed strawberries to the bread dough and mix gently to incorporate.

20150318_191217

Beautiful, isn’t it?

Now, divide the dough evenly into two greased 9×5 loaf pans. I like to put the pans onto a baking sheet so that it’s easier to remove from the oven. This is especially useful if your pans are made of glass, like mine are, because those buggers can be really slippery.

Cook for one-hour at my recommended 425º. You’ll know the bread is ready when you stick a toothpick in the middle and it comes out clean.

Always check both breads, though, as they may not cook at exactly the same speed, and Murphy’s Law tells us that if one is not fully cooked, and we have 50/50 odds, we will always check the fully-cooked bread. Yup.

20150318_191524

Believe it or not, but I don’t have a picture of the finished product! My family was so eagerly anticipating the bread, and the intoxicating smell had filled up our home for nearly three hours, so once this bread cooled, it was gobbled up on the spot.

But believe me when I say that the bread as is beautiful as it is unique. You could also make these into awesome muffins, which is my plan for next time. They’re guaranteed to cook quicker and, hopefully, last longer!

Enjoy! jungle book banana

Disney Fact #136

The Jungle Book certainly has an interesting history. A lot of events occurred during the production of this film, most famously Walt Disney’s passing in 1966, which made this the last animated film he supervised.

But did you know that there while the movie had Walt’s involvement, a crucial mistake was made? It’s too late now to change, but it’s such a big thing to overlook, you wouldn’t think it would happen. But it did.

Apparently, the pronunciation of Mowgli’s name is incorrect.

Get it right! *humph.*

Get it right! *humph.*

That’s a pretty big deal, seeing that he is the main character and all. But it’s true, the “mow” part of his name rhymes with “cow”, not “low” like we pronounce it. Author Rudyard Kipling’s daughter supposedly told animators and Disney of this mistake, but it was not corrected. It’s not clear why, but Kipling never forgave the mistake.
